Lake Street Dive graced TV screens around the country this past weekend with a performance on CBS Mornings: Saturday Sessions featuring three songs from the group’s new LP, Good Together, out now.
For their Saturday Sessions appearance, Lake Street Dive’s Rachael Price (lead vocals), Bridget Kearney (bass, vocals), Mike Calabrese (drums, vocals), Akie Bermiss (keys, vocals), and James Cornelison (guitar, vocals) opted for “Dance With a Stranger”—in its second TV performance in two weeks following a recent rendition on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert—as well as the album’s title track, “Good Together”, and the uplifting “Help Is On the Way”.
On Good Together, produced by Grammy-winner Mike Elizondo (Fiona Apple, 50 Cent, Carrie Underwood, Mastodon), the group takes on weighty societal themes with its eclectic jazz-pop sound. As the band noted when the album came out, “The ethos of Good Together can be described as ‘joyful rebellion,’ just as energetic and danceable as it is defiantly principled.”
“There’s a lot to be angry about in the world right now, a lot of pain and rage and divisiveness, but it isn’t sustainable to constantly live in that anger—you need something else to keep you going,” drummer Mike Calabrese said of the mindset behind the record. “Joy is a great way to sustain yourself, and we wanted to encourage everyone to stay aware of that. In a way this album is our way of saying, ‘Take your joy very seriously.’”
