This past weekend, the scenic Club Getaway in Kent, Connecticut, played host to Le Getaway V, the sleep-away camp-style concert event hosted and headlined by heavy-hitting, prog-tronic power trio lespecial.
Against a serene backdrop of peak-season New England foliage, Le Getaway V presented fans with three nights of music by lespecial, Mihali (live band), Karina Rykman, DJ Logic, Teddy Midnight, and more in addition to a long list of unique extracurricular experiences.
The weekend kicked off on Friday with the “Flannel Friday Happy Hour,” which invited guests to don their favorite flannel attire while enjoying welcome cocktails in the crisp fall air while members of lespecial and more led attendees in an outdoor drum circle jam. The evening’s musical journey began with a tone-setting, high-energy performance by Karina Rykman and her namesake band. A powerful, 90-minute headlining performance by lespecial got attendees moshing and head-banging before DJ Logic closed out the night with an improvised set augmented by live instrumentation courtesy of lespecial members, showcasing Logic’s turntable mastery and affinity for exploration.
Saturday’s agenda offered a plethora of outdoor adventures for thrill-seekers (including hiking, kayaking, and zip-lining) and more relaxing activities for leisurely vacationers (like the camp’s giant swings and aerial park). In the afternoon, Stowe Cider hosted a cider-making class where participants’ creations were judged by DJ Logic and lespecial bassist Luke Bemand. The afternoon wound down with drinks, snacks, and grilling by the fire pit before a communal dinner brought everyone to break bread before hitting the dance floor.
As night fell, Mihali’s live band delivered reggae-tinged tunes, setting a relaxed yet lively atmosphere for the evening. Next, lespecial teamed up with jazz-punk-funk-metal maestro Mike Dillon—a combo otherwise known as Fackn’ A—for a howling, punk-plus performance. Synth-driven electro-rock trio Teddy Midnight kept the energy high with a drum and bass disco dance party before the night concluded with Scott Hannay Plays Video Games, an interactive experience that combined live gaming and synth music.
