One of the most revered singer-songwriters of the 20th century, Leonard Cohen, has passed away at the age of 82. Cohen, who just released his latest album, You Want It Darker, recently spoke about being ready to die in an interview with The New Yorker:

“I don’t think I’ll be able to finish those songs. Maybe, who knows? And maybe I’ll get a second wind, I don’t know. But I don’t dare attach myself to a spiritual strategy. I don’t dare do that. I’ve got some work to do. Take care of business. I am ready to die. I hope it’s not too uncomfortable. That’s about it for me.”

Best known for penning the songs “Suzanne,” “Bird On The Wire,” and the oft-covered “Hallelujah,” (from 1984’s Various Positions) which has seen everybody from Jeff Buckley to Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan play their own renditions, Cohen’s, at times, haunting lyrics have been heard by millions all over the world.

Rest in peace, Leonard Cohen.
