Last summer, Lettuce stole the weekend at LOCKN’ with their star-studded late-night tribute to the Jerry Garcia Band. The tribute was so well-received, in fact, that the band decided to reprise their JGB set as part of their annual Red Rocks bash—affectionately known as Rage Rocks—which took place on Saturday night. Longtime JGB member Melvin Seals lent a helping hand during the band’s tribute set on organ and keys.
Lettuce delivered a slew of Jerry Garcia favorites during their first set, which began with “Finders Keepers”. The funk powerhouse moved forward with “That’s What Love Will Make You Do”, “How Sweet It Is”, Bob Dylan‘s “Tangled Up In Blue”, and J.J. Cale‘s “After Midnight”. Lettuce kept on truckin’ with “I Second That Emotion”, “They Love Each Other”, and “Cats Under The Stars”, which was followed by a set-closing Meters jam.
On Friday, Lettuce released their highly-anticipated new album, Elevate, marking the band’s fifth full-length studio LP and first studio LP in nearly four years. For the band’s second Red Rocks set, Lettuce offered up a mix of tunes off of the new album, including “Trapezoid”, “Krewe”, “Royal Highness”, “Everybody Wants To Rule The World”, “Ready To Live”, and “Purple Cabbage”, along with fan-favorites “Let It GOGO”, “Makin’ My Way Back Home”, and “Moksha”. Lettuce offered up a massive “Phyllis” sandwich, which featured an Adam Deitch drum solo smacked in the middle before closing out their second set with “Squadlive”. The band returned to deliver a lone encore of “The Force”.
