Multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter Jackie Greene continued on with his winter tour over the weekend, pulling into Ardmore Music Hall located just outside of Philadelphia for a performance on Valentine’s Day. Alongside guitar player Nathan Dale, bass player Jon Cornell and drummer Fitz Harris, Greene and company pieced together an outstanding set comprised of Greene’s hard-hitting originals as well as the occasional cover tune.
Beginning with a slow building “I Don’t Live In A Dream,” Greene immediately showcased the vulnerability in his vocals and his acumen for the blues. The energy carried over from the opening notes into the wide open pastures of “I’m So Gone” from Greene’s 2006 record American Myth. After versions of “Light Up Your Window” and “Shaky Ground,” Greene would really hit his stride during “Shaken,” “Hallelujah” and “Silver Lining.” The song-writing on display was nothing short of honest and authentic.
The final moments of the night would include a snarling cover of The Beatles’ “Yer Blues” as well as the Grateful Dead’s “Scarlet Begonias” emerging out of the anxiousness of “A Moment Of Temporary Color.” Listen to the show in its entirety below via Archive.org and taper Keith Litzenberger:
