Father John Misty, known for his melodic rhetoric regarding the devastation of current issues, has used his talents to produce a new song called “Holy Hell” in response to the recent presidential election. “Holy hell, damn, the future ain’t looking so bright,” the ballad begins. “This unfathomable, nameless rift/ Who knows if it even exists/ It’s just some highly effective rhetoric/ Used by perverts who get off on it,” he sings.

While his messages often occupy a negative tone, J. Tillman uses this tune to evoke power within the community looking for change. “But all my friends/ Yeah, I’m talking to you / The world won’t end unless we want it to… And it’s our life to choose.” While using social media to spread his beliefs and understandings of the world, it’s empowering to see Tillman use music to do the same.
