With his distinct and unique style, it’s no wonder that producer RJD2 is so beloved. Merging classic elements of jazz, soul and funk with new age technologies, the veteran producer has remained on the cutting edge of music creation in the 21st century. Today, RJD2 has announced the release of a new album, Dame Fortune, on March 25th, inspired by his year living in Philadelphia.

In a statement, RJD2 said “Living in Philly provided a context for a lot of soul music that I had liked… I didn’t have any cultural context for this music that I liked—it was just music that I had stumbled across as a beat making nerd. Philly was a place where there were enough people who had the same musical vocabulary that I did, which made the music more than something I had just discovered on my own.”

The first track from the new album is titled “Peace Of What,” and takes its inspiration from the 1991 single “Peace Is Not The Word To Play” by hip hop group Main Source. Stream it below:
