Last night, the full original lineup of The Phil Lesh Quintet performed an energetic set at the Forest Hills Tennis Center in Queens, NY. The lineup included Warren Haynes (guitar), Jimmy Herring (guitar), Rob Barraco (keys), and John Molo (drums). Highlights from the show include an instrumental cover The Beatles’ “A Day in the Life,” a beautiful “Morning Dew” sang by Warren Haynes, and an improv-heavy segment of “St Stephen > Help on the Way > Slipknot! > The Other One > Slipknot! > Franklin’s Tower.” Two Phil Lesh Quintet originals were played on this evening, “Night of 1000 Stars” and “The Real Thing” (the latter of which served as the encore). The word going around is that the quintet found their groove in the second set, and the audio below certainly helps to prove that.

THE SETLIST:

Set One: Playing in the Band > The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, Mason’s Children, Doin’ That Rag, A Day in the Life (instrumental), Viola Lee Blues, Night of 1000 Stars

Set Two: Jam > Lady with a Fan > The Eleven > Terrapin Station > Morning Dew, St Stephen > Help on the Way > Slipknot! > The Other One > Slipknot! > Franklin’s Tower, Donor Rap
