Lotus, the infamous electronic-influenced jam band, has announced a new album called Gilded Age, to be released on July 22nd. The album contains six, all-new rock-driven tracks, as well as four downtempo electronic remixes.
Lotus guitarist/keyboardist Luke Miller said about the album, “On this album we wanted to occupy that powerful place of the human mind, the mental eye that can see erosion and cracks and envision a palace. We focused primarily on simple organic instruments: drum, bass, guitar, piano, percussion, played live in a room. The overall mood is one of reflective happiness, the joy of the impermanent, nostalgia of halcyon days.”
Bassist Jesse Miller added, “Lotus has long been known as a band with electronic and dance influences, but we also know the power and beauty of a stripped down rock song. On this album, we went for a sound that we hope inspires nostalgia, but also the joy of a hopeful future. I imagine standing at the edge of town, looking back, knowing I’m leaving something behind, but looking forward to the unknown adventure ahead.”
You can watch a preview of the new album, which goes in-depth into how the band made Gilded Age, below:
The band worked with Jonathan Low (The National, The Local Natives, The War on Drugs), and collaborated with singer Steve Yutzey-Burkey on three tracks. The album also features remixes from four prominent producers: KiloWatts, D.V.S*, Marley Carroll, and Skytree. You can pre-order the album via the Bandcamp page, and doing so will give you a free download of the first track “Let Me In” on Jul 14th.
