As we near the upcoming Louis Armstrong’s Wonderful World Festival in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, NY on Saturday June 20th, we would like to highlight some of the activities that will be taking place over the course of the day. Besides an incredible lineup featuring acts such as Shannon Powell’s Traditional All-Star Band straight out of Louis’ backyard in New Orleans, Brooklyn’s own afrobeat royalty Antibalas, and Grammy award winning artists Rebirth Brass Band, Ozomatli, and Ms. Lauryn Hill, there will be plenty to do over the course of the day at the site of both the 1939/1940 and 1964/1965 New York World’s Fair.

The festival’s Backyard Bash area will feature family friendly activities throughout the park and special DJ curated sets from DJ Cochon de Lait, DJ Sultán Balkanero, and DJ Rekha in the Queens Museum, recreating the memorable garden parties that Louis hosted for his friends and neighbors at his home in Corona where he lived for almost 30 years. For families, there will be art-making tables and the festival’s cultural partners will delight children with interactive exhibitions. There will also be a plethora of food trucks at the festival serving ethnic cuisine, old school favorites, and Louis’ favorite food — rice and beans!
Oh, and just a couple of more things….Flushing Meadows Corona Park is the largest park in Queens, and offers plenty of space for whatever your outdoor desires may be — baseball, soccer, tennis, frisbee, etc. There is also a stunning recreation complex, a zoo, an art museum, a botanical garden, a science museum, and is right next to Citi Field and the US Open.
