Hailing from the mountains of Bozeman, MT comes award-winning performer Madeline Hawthorne, a spunky singer-songwriter who has quite literally picked herself up by the bootstraps and built a grassroots career in music.
Her blend of outlaw country, roots, and Americana shines forthright in her debut single, “Boots”, out now. The song will serve as the title track of her first album, Boots, produced by Brad Parsons and Tyler Thompson (Fruition) and due for an October 1st release.
Boots, Hawthorne’s debut solo record, was penned upon the breakup of Hawthorne’s longtime band, The Hawthorne Roots, a regional touring mainstay that graced the stages alongside the likes of Nicki Bluhm and Dustbowl Revival and landed festival slots from Targhee and YarmonyGrass to Red Ants Pants and Big Sky Big Grass before going their separate ways in 2020.
The uncertainty of the pandemic, paired with the band’s split, ultimately inspired Hawthorne to trust in herself, take a leap of faith, and pen her most authentic, bold, honest and ambitious collection yet.
“‘Boots’ is my introduction to the world as a solo artist,” Hawthorne shares in a press release. “The way the intro is stripped down to a guitar and my vocals, as well as the message of the song discussing women in the world and in the music industry, felt like a good representation of where I am as an artist today.”
The breakout single is accompanied by the release of Hawthorne’s first official music video. Shot in the midst of the pandemic, the video follows Hawthorne as she makes the best of a snowy evening quarantined at home with her husband is inspired by non other than her trusty boots and a well-poured Old Fashioned.
On the video, Hawthorne continues, “It’s a playful and lighthearted reminder to never take yourself too seriously, even if you take your career and your music seriously.”
