Madonna postponed the North American leg of her Celebration Tour on Monday, weeks after she was hospitalized due to a severe bacterial infection. Announced via The Material Girl’s Instagram and corroborated by Live Nation, the affected dates span from July through October and encompass shows throughout the U.S. and Canada.
“Thank you for your positive energy, Prayers and words of healing and encouragement,” Madonna, 64, wrote in a health update Instagram. “I have felt your love. I’m on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life.
“My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children,” she continued. “My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour. I also didn’t want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone.”
As Madonna continues her recovery, she has indefinitely postponed the North American leg of The Celebration Tour, which was set to begin this Saturday in Vancouver and run through October 8th in Las Vegas. She is currently planning to begin touring with the European leg, scheduled to kick off on October 14th in London. The shows are billed as a retrospective incorporating hits from throughout her 40-year career.
“My focus now is my health and getting stronger and I can assure you, I’ll be back with you as soon as I can!” She concluded. “I couldn’t be more grateful or your care and support. Love, M.”
The singer’s condition was first confirmed late last month by her manager, who revealed she developed a severe bacterial infection and spent several days in the ICU. Upon discharge, she was initially reported to be bedridden, but over the past several days has been seen out and about in public.
