Soulful songstress Maggie Rose has shared her haunting rendition of Carole King classic “I Feel The Earth Move”. While the opening track from King’s seminal 1971 LP, Tapestry, is lively and upbeat, Rose and her band slow things down and explore the shadowy corners of the song on their reimagined version.
The cover premiered earlier this week on SiriusXM during the Nashville-based artist’s takeover on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame station, recorded on-site at the Rock Hall in Cleveland, OH.
As Maggie explained of the cover choice, “Given my love for Carole King’s Tapestry and the fact that the album helped me deal with so much of the difficulty of last year—the same year that the album turned fifty—it felt therapeutic and appropriate to pay tribute to the Rock Hall inductee by reimagining this song with my band.”
“We cut our version in the middle of February and didn’t shy away from the darkness we were all feeling, but that made the process cathartic,” she added. “It is simply an amazing song that brought us all back together during an extraordinary time and I’m excited to finally share it with you now.”
Maggie’s all-woman Rock & Roll Hall of Fame takeover on SiriusXM follows in the same vein as her podcast, Salute The Songbird, which features candid conversations with her musical heroes including Nancy Wilson (Heart), Brandi Carlile, Yola, Mickey Guyton, Martina McBride, Jade Bird, and more.
