You don’t technically need to have a train song to be a great bluegrass band, but most do—and Magoo is no exception. The rising Denver-based jam grass quartet’s new single, “Can’t You Hear That Train”, is one of two locomotive tracks on the band’s debut album, What A Life, due out February 27th (the other being previously released single “Riding Trains”).
“‘Can’t You Hear That Train’ started as a classic train song–Your girl is leaving on a train and there’s nothing you can do about it. I wrote it about five years ago and just let it sit,” said guitarist Erik Hill. “When I pulled it back out last Spring and played it for the band, that’s when it really came alive and the jam found its way in. We always have a lot of fun playing the song live.”

The new single is one of ten tracks featured on Magoo’s first full-length LP. The band has already released two EPs and several singles, some of which reappear on the new album’s tracklist. In addition to the two train songs, the album includes a pair of road songs—another ubiquitous theme—”The Road” and “The Roads Been Good to Me”, as well as lead single “Angel of Telluride” featuring new grass pioneer Sam Bush on vocals and fiddle.
