Marcus King got into the holiday spirit earlier this week with a cover Clarence Carter‘s “Back Door Santa” at the Relix studio. The 24-year-old guitarist/vocalist/bandleader played the song with about as much soul as one would expect from the young phenom.

King’s impassioned take on the 12-bar blues song showcased his impressive range and technical guitar ability. The power behind his voice was evident from the first verse as he sang, “They call me Back Door Santa/I make my runs about the break of day/I make all the little girls happy/While their man is out to play”.

About halfway through, King offered some excellent blues leads over his own rhythm playing on his resonator guitar and capped-off the song with a hopeful “Merry Christmas.”
