Grammy-nominated guitarist, singer, and songwriter Marcus King appeared as the featured musical guest on Wednesday night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. For his Fallon performance, filmed remotely, King delivered an impassioned take on “Wildflowers & Wine”, the soulful rock ballad from his debut solo album, El Dorado.

The performance, which appears to have been recorded during King’s recent sold-out, socially distanced run at famed Nashville rock club 3rd and Lindsley, packs a powerful emotional punch. Awash in white lights, blue hues, and shadows, King bares his soul via moving, gravelly vocals and scintillating guitar riffs on a heartfelt love song that doubles as an ode to cheap wine, cheap flowers, and old records.

El Dorado was recently nominated for a Grammy Award for “Best Americana Album,” marking King’s first nomination from the Recording Academy. The album was produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys who was also nominated for a Grammy for “Best Producer.” Read our full interview with Marcus King about El Dorado, life in Nashville, and the paradox of age and experience here.

Despite 2020 being a slow year for most, King kept busy and raised $80,000 for the GRAMMY® non-profit MusiCares with his Four of a Kind livestream series, which took place over the summer and featured musical guests such as Billy Strings, Brent Hinds (Mastodon), Jennifer Hartswick, Devon Gilfillian, Maggie Rose, as well as singer-songwriter Early James. He also mounted two successful drive-in tours as the Marcus King Trio.
