Producer Marvel Years has it both ways on his new Have A Cigar EP—on one side, a dutiful recreation of the Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here classic with an array of guest musicians; on the other, a 21st-century makeover remixing the terrestrial rock radio staple with the bass-heavy style that made Marvel Years a festival staple.

Both the cover and remix utilize studio tracks from drummer Adam Deitch (Lettuce), vocalist Jennifer Hartswick (Trey Anastasio Band), and keyboardist Todd Stoops (RAQ). The cover is the type of thing that late-night superjam dreams are made of, with Marvel Years handling the guitar parts in all their David Gilmour glory. Playing the song fairly by the book, each member is still able to put their distinctive stamp on the cover.

Over on the side, Marvel Years takes those some individual tracks and uses them to create something wholly new. All of the same parts are still there, but it’ sounds as if Pink Floyd stepped through the visible spectrum on Dark Side of the Moon and came out dubstep on the other side.

“I’ve been playing this song on guitar since I was ten years old, and it was an honor to recreate one of the most impactful songs from my childhood alongside some of the most talented musicians I know,” Marvel Years said. “I loved the process of remixing our collaborative cover, further putting my own stamp on a record that’s influenced me so heavily.”
