Matador! Soul Sounds are hitting the the road this March for their first-ever U.S. tour! Born from the vision of The New Mastersounds’ Eddie Roberts and Soulive’s Alan Evans, the fierce cuadrilla consists of keyboardist Chris Spies and bassist Kevin Scott (Jimmy Herring) as the band’s “banderilleros”. The band formed out of a short tour with The New Mastersounds where Evans filled in on drums, and he and Roberts formed a deep musical connection. Adding female energy to the band are Adryon de León (Orgone) and Kimberly Dawson (Pimps of Joytime) on vocals. Combining the dynamism of each band leader, the music they have created is brand new, hard-hitting, and drenched with their shared musical passions of jazz, funk, and soul.
Matador! Soul Sounds made their official debut performance at the 2017 installment of Brooklyn Comes Alive and have since then completed their first LP Get Ready to be released alongside this tour. Their 7″ single “Mr. Handsome” is available today through fatbeats and can be purchased here.
