David Bowie released Blackstar two days before his untimely death, long fulfilling his dream to record an album with a jazz band. It was Donny McCaslin‘s band that helped create that record, which included Tim Lefebvre on bass (also Tedeschi Trucks Band), drummer Mark Guiliana, keyboardist Jason Lindner, and McClaslin on saxophone. The quartet recently recorded an album of their own, Beyond Now, which features a couple Bowie covers and sees the band explore heavy jazz, synthetic rock, and psychedelic fusion.

Donny McClaslin and company stopped by NPR’s Tiny Desk to play a few songs off this new album in honor of the Thin White Duke, performing “Shake Loose”, “Lazarus” (from Blackstar), and “Glory”. Check it out:
