The Legend of the Seagullmen is a new supergroup comprised of Mastadon frontman Brent Hinds and Tool drummer Danny Carey. Like their name, the band’s songs and live performance are distinctly nautical-themed. The concept is based on a “400,000-year-old story with pirates, sailors, a rock band and mythical sea creatures.”

The project also features Dimitri Coats of OFF! and is being produced by movie director Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who, Jonah Hex). The Seagullmen tale is the brainchild of Frank, Chris and David Dreyer, who develop theatrical concerts and movies around the subject. Hinds is a friend of David’s and they got involved with the project several years ago.

According to Frank, “[Hinds] learned his true calling in life and is now a part of the Legend of the Seagullmen. His other bands — Mastodon, Fiend Without a Face, and West End Motel — are just excuses for him to travel the world and hunt for the ‘Man O’ War Man.'”

Their first two singles, “The Deep-Sea Diver” and “Ships Wreck,” were released through the band’s website today and we look forward to seeing what else comes of this quirky concept.

Meanwhile, Tool is continuing work on a new album. You can read more about that here.
