One of the last great shows before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the global concert industry took place at The London Palladium back on February 25th, where classic rock royalty spanning generations shared the staged to honor founding Fleetwood Mac guitarist Peter Green. The one-night all-star performance was professionally recorded in its entirety for a live album and concert film, and the first trailer for which was shared on Tuesday.
Organized by fellow founding Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood, the lineup consisted of Green’s former bandmates Christine McVie and Jeremy Spencer, along with Steven Tyler, David Gilmour, Billy Gibbons, Pete Townshend, Kirk Hammett, Noel Gallagher, John Mayall, Zak Starkey, Bill Wyman, and many more. Green himself was not in attendance and neither were Lindsay Buckingham nor Stevie Nicks.
Mick Fleetwood & Friends Celebrate The Music Of Peter Green And The Early Years Of Fleetwood Mac was originally set for release in October but has now been pushed to April 30th, 2021. The film will also see a special one-night-only theatrical debut at some point in March on a date yet to be determined. The physical copies, available April 30th, will come in a variety of formats including a four-LP set, a two-CD/Blu-ray option accompanied by a 20-page photo book, and a Super Deluxe Edition that combines the other two options. The tribute concert, of course, now takes on an even deeper meaning in light of Green’s passing at age 73 back on July 25th.
“The concert was a celebration of those early blues days where we all began, and it’s important to recognize the profound impact Peter and the early Fleetwood Mac had on the world of music,” Fleetwood said in a statement about the concert film. “Peter was my greatest mentor and it gave me such joy to pay tribute to his incredible talent. I was honored to be sharing the stage with some of the many artists Peter has inspired over the years and who share my great respect for this remarkable musician.”
