Mickey Hart, the longtime Grateful Dead drummer and noted multimedia explorer, will present a showcase of his visual artwork at the Haight Street Art Center at 215 Haight Street from July 24th through September 21st, 2025.

The exhibition, titled “Mickey Hart: Art at the Edge of Magic,” will host an opening reception on Thursday, July 31st—the day before Hart and the rest of modern day spinoff Dead & Company kick off their three-day celebration of 60 years of Grateful Dead music in Golden Gate Park.

Per an article published this week by the San Francisco Chronicle, the exhibition, which will serve as Hart’s first art show in a San Francisco museum, will showcase “nearly 100 original paintings and prints.” The Chronicle piece added, “Though he works with paint, Hart rarely uses paintbrushes. Instead, he pours paint onto surfaces, utilizing subwoofer vibrations to shape his works, a process he refers to as ‘vibrational expressionism.'”

“When I paint, I can feel the vibration, I can see it in the colors,” Hart said in a statement. “This mix is exotic and profound in a vibratory and sensual way. I use musical instruments to create and power the paintings out of the vibrations that are formed. When I approach a canvas, it is just like I approach my drums in performance, with an open mind.”

While this will mark Hart’s first-ever gallery show in the Grateful Dead’s native San Francisco, his work has been shown in notable spaces—including on the towering screens of Las Vegas’ Sphere during Dead & Company’s 2025 residency.
