After performing at The Peach Music Festival on Saturday, Mike Gordon on Sunday concluded a 14-date solo tour in support of his new album Flying Games at Burlington, VT’s Higher Ground, where he welcomed his Phish bandmate Page McConnell to sit in with the band.

Joined by guitarist Scott Murawski, drummer John Kimock, percussionist Craig Myers, and keyboardist Rachel Eckroth, who filled in for Robert Walter while he was on tour with Roger Waters, Gordon played selections from the new album including “Connected”, “Back In The Bubble”, “Tilting”, and “Pure Energy”, as well as covers of “Got To Be More Careful” by John Cleary, “Jones” by Max Creek, and “Ooh I Like Your Loving” by Rufus & Chaka Khan.

The highlight of the show, though, arrived as he welcomed Page to the stage at the end of the first set. The Chairman of the Boards sat in alongside Eckroth on Flying Games psychedelic groover “Mull” and an uptempo rendition of “Cities” that resembled the original Talking Heads version more than Phish’s cover of the song, except for Leo’s funky clavinet solo that is. Second set closer “Carini”, which Gordon played with his band for the first time at the start of the tour, was another highlight, followed by a “Sweet Emotion” encore to cap off the final show of the tour.

Check out fan-shot video of Page McConnell sitting in with Mike Gordon and his band on “Cities” below. Gordon returns to the road with Phish for the band’s summer tour on July 11th in Huntsville, AL. Head here for more information and visit the band’s website for tickets.
