On this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live (at Home)Miley Cyrus provided the musical performance of the evening with a powerful rendition of the Pink Floyd classic, “Wish You Were Here”.

After being introduced by actor Brad Pitt, who began the broadcast with an amusing portrayal of Dr. Anthony Fauci, Cyrus performed the Roger Waters/David Gilmour-penned title track from Pink Floyd’s 1975 album with simple accompaniment from a 12-string acoustic guitar. The performance was delivered outdoors at what we can assume is Cyrus’ home, set up next to a smokey campfire and awash in red light.

While covers of classic songs often attempt to do “too much” to put the performer’s own spin on it, the Miley Cyrus rendition of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” stays relatively true to the original song’s feel and melody. Maintaining eye contact with the camera throughout the majority of the performance, Cyrus sings the iconic track with emotion and grit, making for a refreshing take on the oft-covered, particularly timely tune.
