Brooklyn-based Moon Hooch is a pure dance party. From humble beginnings busking in subway stations throughout NYC, the band has grown into a touring machine who has shared a stage with the likes of Galactic, Lotus, They Might Be Giants and more.

The horn-heavy trio consists of Wenzl McGowen on the tenor & baritone sax, clarinet, tubes & EWI; Mike Wilbur on tenor sax, vocals & synth; and James Muschler on drums. When the three come together, they produce an entirely unique sound that they describe as “Cave Music.” It’s “like house music, but more primitive and jagged and raw.” The band accomplishes this by using unique tongue methods and incorporating random objects into the mix such as traffic cones and cardboard. All in all, though all three are classically trained, they’re just down to get silly and show you a good time.

Subset will be opening up the evening. His DJ sets are anything but typical, throwing in everything from Backstreet Boys to old-school hip-hop to songs from the Lion King. He’s one of the hardest working DJs in the game and knows how to cater to his crowd.

Get tickets for Moon Hooch and Subset at Brooklyn Bowl Friday, April 10th here. In the meantime, check out the band’s music video for “EWI.” You’ll laugh, and probably want to get up and dance.
