Neil Young and Crazy Horse will play their first public concerts since 2019 at The Roxy in Los Angeles as part of the iconic venue’s Roxy50 50th anniversary celebration. Proceeds from the shows will benefit The Painted Turtle and Young’s Bridge School.
Set for September 20th and 21st, the concerts will mark 50 years to the day after Young opened the Sunset Strip landmark with a slightly different band, Santa Monica Flyers, which included Crazy Horse members drummer Ralph Molina, bassist Billy Talbot, and multi-instrumentalist Nils Lofgren, as well as steel guitarist Ben Keith. That three-night run featured material the band had just finished tracking for the album Tonight’s the Night. Recordings of the shows were released in 2018 as the live album Roxy: Tonight’s the Night Live.
Young, Molina, Talbot, and Lofgren have released three albums since their last public performance in Winnipeg, Canada on February 3rd–4th, 2019—Colorado (2019), Barn (2021), and World Record (2022). The Roxy shows are the only dates Young, who just wrapped up his first tour since 2019, has booked along with his appearance at Farm Aid.
In addition to Neil Young and Crazy Horse, the Roxy50 celebration will feature performances by Wallows (9/23) and Stephen Marley, who will deliver a rare and intimate acoustic performance commemorating Bob Marley‘s Live at the Roxy plus selections from his new album Old Soul on September 24th. Roxy owner and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Lou Adler will also curate a Live At The Roxy compilation album featuring recordings of legendary artists made at The Roxy including Young, Bruce Springsteen, Emmylou Harris, The Ramones, Nicolette Larson, George Benson, Warren Zevon, Brian Wilson, and more.
