With New Orleans Jazz Fest coming up around the corner, fest goers have a lot to be excited about, with hundreds of spectacular late nights going on around the city. However, this one certainly tops our list of must-see acts. On Friday, April 29th and Saturday, April 30th, the New Mastersounds will perform the music of the legendary Allen Toussaint at the Joy Theater, joined by some incredible special guests. Friday will see the four-piece funk powerhouse play with Eric Krasno (Lettuce/Soulive), Ivan Neville (Dumpstaphunk), and Marc Broussard, while Saturday will feature Jon Cleary and Marc Broussard. The West Coast Horns will be on hand both nights, with Mike Olmos on trumpet and Jason Mingledorff on sax. Both shows start at 2 AM, and tickets are available here.
The New Mastersounds have deep ties to the Crescent City, having traveled and performed there shortly after Hurricane Katrina and experienced its devastating effects on the city. The Brits even made a documentary, Coals to Newcastle, about their experience and how it helped to shape their sound and worldview even to this day. Their return to Jazz Fest with such legendary artists will be nothing short of explosive.
