The Grateful Dead’s relationship with Major League Baseball goes back to 1993, when Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, and Vince Welnick famously sang the national anthem at Candlestick Park for the San Fransisco Giants‘ season opener. In a 2021 interview with Relix, Bob Weir reflected that the trio’s performance, which spread rapidly through the media, helped show the band in a new light and “changed some perceptions about [the Grateful Dead].”
