Yes, you read that correctly. Sir Mix-a-Lot was invited to perform “Baby Got Back” by Seattle Symphony conductor Gabriel Prokofiev, as part of the group’s “Sonic Evolution” series. Naturally, Sir Mix took the opportunity to turn the symphony’s stage into a dance party.

Even Sir Mix-a-Lot knew the situation was outrageous, introducing the tune by saying, “something you really should not do, but since tonight is orchestral movements from the hood night, I’m going to leave some of this open if a couple of ladies would like to get up on the stage.”

You just have to see this for yourself…

On his blog, Prokofiev explains that his “aim was to make an orchestral fantasy that evolved out of the wildest musical elements of Sir Mix-A-Lot, and took all the central elements of his music into a contemporary classical orchestral setting.” The full blog entry is certainly worth reading, as more background behind this bizarre collaboration is certainly worthwhile.

And there you have it. Happy Monday everybody!
