Oh, Nickelback, ever the source of comedic fodder for many of us. In the latest of absurd Nickelback stories (which range from two dudes being arrested for saying “Nickelback”, to crowdsource funding to prevent the band playing in London), Jesse Carey will listen to nothing but everyone’s favorite Vancouver, Canada band for one full week – that is 168 hours, just for the record – in order to raise money to build clean water wells for those without the most crucial element needed for life. The initial goal was to raise $10,000, but has reached almost $19,000 with 5 days to go. God Speed, Jesse!
Here is some additional info from the charity:
From February 16-23, Jesse will undergo the psychological endurance challenge of listening to the entire Nickelback catalog non-stop for a week straight in an effort to raise money for charity. Yes, that means while sleeping, working, even showering, he’ll be listening non-stop. Only a few days after announcing the idea, already thousands of dollars were raised to build wells through charity: water. Here the guys talk about why he’s doing it, and what he’s thinking now that the initial goals have been surpassed.

Carey answered several questions with regards to the challenge, including the following:
Question: Why 24/7 of Nickelback?
Answer: Because it is the ultimate test of human endurance. I’m willing to put my personal health at risk for the challenge. Obviously, exposure to such a large quantity of Nickelback is very dangerous.
Question: Jesse, have you consulted a doctor?
Answer: Yes, several in fact. They have all said that such an endeavor could result in irreversible damage to my ears, brain, kidneys and soul.
Question: Is listening to this much Nickelback even legal?
Answer: To my understanding, most jurisdictions frown on listening to more than 4 Nickelback songs back-to-back. I have retained several lawyers in case some hot-shot prosecutor decides to press charges.
