New Zealand ambient/trance/New Age musician and producer, Nigel John Stanford, has created one of the most mesmerizing videos we have seen in a long time. Using the concept of Cymatics (the study of wave phenomena), Hall had the idea to create a video that melds the worlds of science and music, allowing listeners to not only enjoy the sounds of the music being played, but to also visualize the sound frequencies being created by the music, Stanford explains on his website:

In 1999 I watched a documentary on ‘Synesthesia’ – a disorder that effects the audio and visual functions of the brain. People with the disorder hear a sound when they see bright colors, or see a color when they hear various sounds. I don’t have it (I don’t think), but I have always felt that bass frequencies are red, and treble frequencies are white.

This got me thinking that it would be cool to make a music video where every time a sound plays, you see a corresponding visual element. Many years later, I saw some videos about Cymatics – the science of visualizing audio frequencies, and the idea for the video was born.”

The video for “CYMATICS: Science vs. Music” is visually stunning, and one of the best videos we have seen in a long time. The music is equally as beautiful. Stanford came out with his most recent album, Solar Echoes, in November of 2014. Check out the video below, and see Stanford bringing the unseen into the visual world.
