On Tuesday, September 18th, Nikki Glaspie hosted a wild night at The Mint in Los Angeles, California. Bringing together a huge group of all-star artists under the banner Nikki Glaspie & The Homies, the band tore through their collaborative, celebratory performance. Glaspie’s bandmate, The Nth Power‘s Nate Edgar, held it down on the bass, until original bassist of Earth, Wind & Fire, Verdine White, came up from the audience to perform “Shining Star”, along with EWF guitarist Serg Dimitrijevic and drummer John Paris. Dani Ivory, formerly of the Beyoncé band, held it down on the keys all night, until Kenneth Crouch swapped in for a sit-in. Kudasin Kai, who’s extensive career is highlighted by her touring days with Chaka Khan, also delivered with her incredible voice. Other big names in the scene, such as Trey Anastasio Band‘s Jennifer Hartswick and James Casey and Lettuce‘s bassist Erick “Jesus” Coomes and brother and percussionist Tyler Coomes, made appearances during the night, in addition to a cadre of other regional and nationally touring artists.
