Nikki Glaspie, the acclaimed drummer for acts like The Nth PowerThe OGs, and countless others, more, has announced the release of her new EP, iPhone Sessions, a collection of beats she made on her iPhone while on tour with Maceo Parker. The EP features contributions from The OGs bandmate Katty Rodriguez, Raydar Ellis, and Nikki’s first production partner/ longtime friend, Adam Joseph.

As Nikki explains about the project, “It initially was research to see if it could be used as a creative tool for underprivileged kids. Most underprivileged kids don’t have computers or instruments to play. But most of them have access to some sort of Smartphone. I wanted to let them know it’s still possible to be creative with whatever you have.”

“This will by my first release under my own name,” Glaspie adds. “I’m excited to get my feet wet. I have soooo much music that has been sitting on my computer and phone, and thanks to a little push and a pandemic, I will finally share it with the world. Like why not? I’m finally past the fear of putting my music out there to be judged. Some people will like it and some people will hate it. Hopefully, there will be less of the latter. But at the end of the day, I made this on my phone. I made music on something that people have in their pocket. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.”

Nikki Glaspie has been busy this week sitting in with the 8G Band on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Glaspie also recently served as the co-host of Justice Comes Alive, a one-day, virtual festival harnessing the power of music to bring about collective change in response to racial inequality. The donation-based streaming event generated $55,000 and counting in funds for the participating artists, who remain out of work as the pandemic continues, as well as a number of social justice-oriented causes via PLUS1 For Black Lives Fund.
