As the leaves turn and election season ramps up, Old Crow Medicine Show is here to remind us of the power we hold as voters with the band’s new single, “Donkey & Elephant”. This fresh offering is not just a catchy tune but a bipartisan call to action in a time when political tensions run high.

Frontman Ketch Secor explains, “We wrote this song because when your heroes are Johnny, Willie, and Kristofferson, you’ve got to sing about what’s going on.” The message is clear: the band isn’t about pushing a single agenda but rather highlighting the broader frustration with today’s political landscape. “We don’t really care who you vote for, as long as your hearts are in it,” Secor emphasizes.

Old Crow has been vocal about their activism. Last year, the band released the powerful protest anthem “Louder Than Guns” and engaged in conversations about social issues in prominent outlets like Rolling Stone and NPR. With “Donkey & Elephant”, the group continues that tradition of using its platform to encourage civic engagement and reflection.

“Donkey & Elephant” marks another significant milestone in Old Crow’s journey. This year, the band celebrates its 25th anniversary and recently regained ownership of the masters of their first three albums—O.C.M.S., Tennessee Pusher, and Carry Me Back. Partnering with Firebird for distribution, Secor expressed pride in their collaboration, saying, “For an old time string band that started on street corners to sign with one of the most innovative and forward-minded leaders in today’s music business says a lot about both of us.”

Firebird Label Services echoes this excitement. Kenny Weagly, VP and Head of Artist & Label Services, remarked on the significance of Old Crow reclaiming their catalog, particularly the groundbreaking O.C.M.S. as it hits its 20th anniversary. “We welcome the opportunity to support the band on new releases such as ‘Donkey & Elephant,’ empowering them with our resources and unique support system,” he stated.

Currently, Old Crow Medicine Show is in the midst of its Jubilee Tour, a celebration of the band’s two and a half decades of music-making. The tour, which supports the group’s Grammy-nominated album of the same name, features special guests like Willie Watson, Jaime Wyatt, and Hannah Dasher on select dates. The year will wrap up with Old Crow’s annual New Year’s Eve shows at Nashville’s iconic Ryman Auditorium on December 30th and 31st.
