After touring the globe as the backing band for discodelic sensation Say She She, West Coast Afro-psych pillar ORGŌNE is back with news of a new album Chimera. The L.A. shapeshifting instrufunk ensemble previewed the new album, out February 9th, 2024 via Palm Records, with the lead single “Lies and Games”.
As is often the case for the groovecentric band, ORGŌNE enlisted the help of a special guest vocalist on “Lies and Games”, with Terin Ector breathing her soul into the track. The slippery, slinky rhythm guitar sets off down the road to emotional atonement as Ector bemoans the “Lies and Games”, with interstellar synths sending the rhythmic breakdown into the stratosphere for deep-space contemplation.
Produced by Sergio Rios (Neal Francis, Say She She), Chimera takes its name from the mythical creature with the head of a lion, the body of a goat, and the tail of a serpent. The title is fitting for a work that pieces together elements of stoned psych-rock, New Orleans voodoo soul, and thumping Afro-funk, all from a band that similarly defies singular description.
“The album really took form organically,” ORGŌNE guitarist and co-founder Sergio Rios said. “It’s raw and dark with a hopeful thread throughout that’s highlighted by the incredible soul singers we work with. There’s a looseness to most of the cuts, giving the album the feeling of a shadowy dream.”
