Furthur has just announced their first attempt at a destination resort festival, which seems to be something that more and more bands are doing these days (i.e. The Disco Biscuits Mayan Holidaze, Widespread Panic’s Panic En La Playa, and Gov’t Mule’s Island Exodus). The festival will be called Paradise Waits, and will be held from January 20th-24th at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya in Mexico.

With rooms available for only 2,500 fans, this is going to be one intimate affair on the beautiful beaches of Mexico, with the current Furthur lineup of Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Jeff Chimenti (keys), Joe Russo (drums), John Kadlecik (guitar), and vocalists Sunshine Becker and Jeff Pehrson.

The event is all-inclusive, with meals, drinks and certain activities included in the price, with additional activities and excursions available for attendees. A pre-sale for the event begins on August 14th, with pricing ranging from $1549-$2999 per person based on double occupancy and including a four-night stay at the resort . The event is being put on by Cloud 9.

From the Furthur website:

Furthur invites you to Paradise Waits featuring former Grateful Dead members Phil Lesh & Bob Weir and their band taking the music south of the border for the very first time to perform 4 magical nights in Riviera Maya, Mexico! This exploratory musical journey includes daily activities, a variety of off site excursions to explore the region and all the magic that comes from being on vacation in an intimate setting with 2,500 like-minded people.

Days are for sleeping in, lounging by the sea, going to the spa, doing yoga, gathering for a tequila tasting, going fishing, or going on an excursion. Or just take a siesta! Before the show, get your friends together and dine in one of many on site restaurants featuring ethnic cuisines. Remember that all drinks including beer, wine and premium liquor are yours for the taking, served in multiple bars and lounges throughout the property and are all included in the price of admission. By night, there will be songs to fill the air as we go a little bit Furthur than we’ve gone before…
