Pearl Jam unexpectedly dropped a new single yesterday, entitled “Can’t Deny Me”. Marking the band’s first original release since 2013’s Lightning Bolt LP, there is no supporting information that indicates whether this new track is a preview of the band’s next album or if it is part of their annual Holiday Singles series, exclusive to their official Ten Club fan club.
“Can’t Deny Me” is most likely a knock on the current President, as Eddie Vedder sings: “You may be rich but you can’t deny me/ Got nothing but the will to survive,” “The country you are representing/ Condition critical,” and more political jabs that are seemingly directed at Donald Trump. While it streamed yesterday on Sirius XM’s Pearl Jam Radio, the full song is currently only available to Ten Club members. You can listen to the protest song’s preview below, or join the Ten Club here.
“Can’t Deny Me” comes a week before Pearl Jam are set to head out on South American tour. This summer, the band is slated to perform in Europe, before they head back to North American for a series of stadium shows, dubbed “the Home Shows” in Seattle and the “Away Shows” at Boston’s Fenway Park, Chicago’s Wrigley Field and Missoula, Montana’s Washington-Grizzly Stadium.
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017, the band’s first year of eligibility, Pearl Jam has sold nearly 32 million records in the United States and an estimated 60 million worldwide–earning their spot as one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
