Chicago post-emo stoner deathgaze outfit Pelican has announced its first studio album in six years, Flickering Resonance. Out May 16th via the band’s new label Run For Cover, it will mark Pelican’s first album with founding guitarist Laurent Schroeder-Lebec since What We All Come to Need in 2009.
Along with the album announcement, Pelican shared the lead single “Cascading Crescent”. As expected, it comes crashing like a freight train full of dynamite and settles into a satisfying groove that shows the band hasn’t lost its edge since 2019’s Nighttime Stories. Schroeder-Lebec slips right back into the mix like he never left, locking into a gloriously buzzy back-and-forth with guitarist Trevor de Brauw. In addition to the digital single and album version, Pelican will release a 7″ single with a vinyl-only version featuring vocals from Geoff Rickly (Thursday) and the B-side.
Pelican will take Flickering Resonance out on the road this summer for a newly announced tour with support from Austin post-hardcore band Porcelain. The tour will kick off in Cleveland on July 17th and visit Washington, D.C. (7/17), Philadelphia (7/19), Brooklyn (7/20), Boston (7/21), Grand Rapids (7/24), Indianapolis (7/25), and Pelican’s hometown of Chicago (7/26) before heading overseas to the U.K. and Europe. Ahead of the headlining dates, Pelican will support fellow Chicago post-rockers Russian Circles on a March tour of the U.S. Tickets for Pelican’s new tour dates will go on sale on Friday, February 14th on the band’s website.
