Phil Lesh & Friends hosted a special Valentine’s Day show at Terrapin Crossroads last night, bringing together and exceptional lineup that included jazz fusion guitarist Stanley Jordan, multi-instrumentalists Jason Crosby and Barry Sless, drummer John Molo, and the Midnight North Singers, made up of Grahame Lesh, Alex Koford and Elliot Peck.

After a swirling, ethereal jam to begin the night, Phil & Friends busted straight into “Till The Morning Comes,” following it up with a traditional rendition of “Peggy-O,” Peck lending her graceful vocals to the song, as well as on a cover of Van Morrision’s “Into The Mystic.” The other two Midnight North Singers, Lesh and Koford, would take the reigns singing Bob Dylan’s “Girl From The North Country” and Bruce Springsteen’s “She’s The One,” before a “Sugaree” set finale.

“Dark Star” ignited the second set with its dynamic ebbs and flows, ultimately giving way to a Koford-lead cover of Oasis’ “Wonderwall” and a Phil favorite in “Unbroken Chain,” as well as Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon.” Following “Scarlet Begonias,” the rest of the set seemed to flow like water. An outstandingly melodic “Mountains Of The Moon” fed into another section of intricate jamming between Phil and Jordan before the second verse of “Dark Star” was unearthed, leading to Paul McCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed” and Stephen Stills’ “Love The One You’re With.” The night was capped off by the tender licks of Derek and the Dominoes’ “Layla.”
