Just over a year since celebrating its then-biggest show to date at Philadelphia’s 14,000-capacity Mann Center for the Performing Arts in June 2024, Goose returned to the venue on Saturday with a few more milestones under its belt, including two new studio albums and the band’s headlining debut at Madison Square Garden, which now stands as the biggest Goose show to date.

No warmup needed after nearly a month on the road, the band launched into “Pancakes” with excitement befitting the most important meal of the day. Diving into the “Seekers on the Ridge” suite next, the quartet jammed on part 1 for almost ten minutes for smoothly segueing into part 2. A funky pairing of “Dustin Hoffman” into “Rockdale” got the dance floor moving, followed by an adventurous 19+ minute take on unreleased track “Big Modern!” and a dynamic “Give It Time” to finish off the set.

Set two featured just five songs, ranging in duration from an eight-minute “Thatch” to a 25-minute “Into the Myst”, both of which were left unfinished. The latter kicked things off with a dancey four-on-the-floor jam that straddled the line between disco and jamtronica, ultimately bleeding into a playful cover of Dead or Alive‘s “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)”. “Madhuvan” was another highlight, clocking in at 17 minutes. Upon reaching the improvised section, the band built an avant garde soundscape of atonal sounds, gradually building to a heavy, Middle Eastern-inspired jam. “Thatch” kept the energy high before settling into a relaxed, airy groove that flowed into a cinematic set closer, “Elmeg The Wise”.

Goose managed to squeeze in a one-song encore, “SALT”, before the venue’s curfew, capping the band’s fall tour on a note both joyful and triumphant.
