The jamband juggernaut Phish just released a new show—their performance on May 17th, 1992 at the Achilles Rink at Union College in Schenectady, New York—to its show archives ahead of the show’s 25th anniversary on Wednesday. The show fell at end of their extensive 53-show, 24-state spring tour that year, marking the tour’s second-to-last show before its final date the next night on May 18th at the Flynn Theatre in the band’s home of Burlington, Vermont. The show that went down at Union College’s hockey arena that fateful Sunday also doubled as a birthday party for Page McConnell who turned 29 that evening. With a ticket price of only $5, the show was announced more or less through word of mouth considering the performance was not publicized via Phish’s newsletter or hotline at the time.

As described by the notes on the show, “Highlights of the Schenectady ’92 show included The Landlady > Llama opener, Stash, and Chalk Dust Torture from set I.  The Curtain > Possum kicked off set II with a concentrated barrage of Secret Language and teases of everything from Rocky Mountain Way to China Grove to It’s Ice and Divided Sky during one of the all-time far-out Possums.  Brother went completely unhinged and led appropriately…perhaps inevitably to Sanity, before Fish took over vocal and vacuum duties for Syd Barrett’s Love You.  A standout Harry Hood rounded out set II and continued the show’s Outward thrust.”

Phish.net also notes that Jon Fishman performed on trombone during the first set’s “I Don’t Know,” and that the band dedicated “The Squirming Coil” to McConnell in honor of his birthday, which also contained two “Happy Birthday” teases from the keys player during the song. This latest release, which was recorded by Paul Languedoc and mastered by Fred Kevorkian, is available for streaming and download via LivePhish.com, and you can check out its setlist, courtesy of Phish.net, below.
