After months of speculation, the Las Vegas, NV Sphere used its massive exterior screens on Wednesday night to reveal a Phish run at the state-of-the-art entertainment arena from April 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st, 2024.
Per a press release circulated by the venue on Thursday morning, “Each of Phish’s shows at Sphere will feature completely unique setlists AND visuals, making every show a truly once-in-a-lifetime audio-visual experience. These shows mark the beginning of a new relationship between Phish and Sphere, but they will be the only shows Phish will perform at the venue in 2024.”
Phish marks just the second act ever confirmed to play the new Las Vegas arena following U2, which is currently in the midst of a 36-date Sphere residency set to run through February 2024. While the comparatively brief run of Phish shows seems to go against the stated mission of the $2.3 billion arena to host extended stays by single artists, Phish has always seemed like a shoo-in for an appearance at the 17,500-capacity Sphere. In addition to boasting a long resume of extended runs at James Dolan’s “other” arena, New York’s Madison Square Garden, Phish guitarist/vocalist Trey Anastasio was involved in the slow rollout of Sphere’s many new technologies: Back in August of 2022, when New York’s Beacon Theatre, an MSG Entertainment property, installed a scaled-down version of Sphere Immersive Sound, Sphere’s innovative “beamforming” audio setup powered by HOLOPLOT, a pair of Anastasio solo acoustic shows served as the first performances to utilize the sound system.
“From the moment we first heard about Sphere and its potential, we’ve been dreaming up ways to bring our show to this breathtaking canvas,” Anastasio said in a press release. “We’re thrilled to present this completely unique experience to Phish fans.”
The Sphere run joins a growing list of special engagements for Phish in 2024 including a return to Riviera Maya, Mexico in February and the band’s first festival since 2015 in Dover, DE in August. For a full list of upcoming Phish tour dates, head here.
A ticket request period for the first-ever Phish shows at Sphere is currently underway here and will run until Monday, December 11th at 9:00 a.m. PT / 12:00 p.m. ET. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, December 15th at 10:00 a.m. PT / 1:00 p.m. ET.
