Hip-hop OG Slick Rick stopped by Brooklyn Bowl to celebrate his birthday on Friday. The event marked the 12th annual birthday celebration for the illustrious rapper and street fashion trailblazer, who rose to prominence with Doug E. Fresh & the Get Fresh Crew in the mid-’80s with early hip-hop classics like “The Show” and “La Di Da Di”.

Slick Rick was joined by DJ Kaos and The Slickettes at Friday’s show, which also featured sounds by Kool DJ Red Alert, but of course the star of the show was Slick Rick himself, who celebrated his 58th birthday with an enthusiastic crowd at Brooklyn live music hub.

“To be receiving this honor is incredible,” he wrote in a social media post. He went on to add, “And to be in marvelous company with my fellow inductees is humbling. God is good. All the time!” Among the other artists slated to receive Lifetime Achievement Awards are Nirvana, Nile Rodgers, The Supremes, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, Bobby McFerrin, and Ma Rainey.
