Mardi Gras may have come and gone, but that hasn’t stopped Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and The Soul Rebels from keeping the party going all month long. The two New Orleans native acts recently stopped by the Count Basie Center For The Arts in Red Bank, NJ as part of their Shorty Gras Tour.
The Shorty Gras Tour marks the first time that Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews and his band have taken their uniquely NOLA celebration on the road. Shorty Gras has become a beloved New Orleans tradition since its inaugural year in 2020 and a featured event as part of the Krewe de Freret Parade in the lead-up to Mardi Gras (the Krewe de Freret Parade occurred on February 3rd, 2024). Trombone Shorty led the parade on his signature float and concluded it with the Shorty Gras ball at Mardi Gras World featuring a who’s who of musical guests.
In celebration of the Shorty Gras Tour and the festive season as a whole, Trombone Shorty and Sammy Cyrus also released a new Fat Tuesday anthem, “Mardi Gras Morning”, under the banner Saint Brass. Watch the video for the new track below and check out a gallery of images from Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and The Soul Rebels in New Jersey courtesy of photographer Ken Spielman. The tour continues tonight, February 27th, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, with additional shows in Ithica, NY (2/28), McKees Rocks, PA (3/1), and Charles Town, WV (3/2).
