Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Andy Frasco & The U.N., and Dogs In A Pile kicked off another run of joint tour dates with two nights at The Caverns in Pelham, TN.
The three bands joined forces earlier this year for the initial Pigeons Frasco Dogs Tour and apparently had so much fun, they extended the run with new dates lasting through the remainder of summer. Each night at Tennessee’s premier subterranean venue featured jam-packed sets from each band and nightly onstage collaborations.
One of Friday’s highlights arrived during Frasco’s set, when the charismatic frontman got up close and personal with the crowd.
“The beautiful thing about love is that it can happen to anyone,” he announced before addressing one fan in particular. “Like my friend Nick here. Hey, Nick. How you doing, brother? I heard you want to say a few words?”
Frasco handed the microphone to Nick, who knelt down on one knee and proposed to his partner as the band continued to play “Iowa Moon”. Luckily she said yes, and the room erupted into a celebration of the newly engaged couple’s love.

Frasco’s set also saw sit-ins from four members of Dogs In A Pile—guitarist Brian Murray, keyboardist Jeremy Kaplan, drummer Joey Babick, and guitarist Jimmy Law. Pigeons’ set then featured an appearance from Moon Taxi keyboardist Wes Bailey, who sat in with Pigeons on “Feed The Fire”, and Kaplan, who took the stage for a third time to help the flock close out its set with “Poseidon” before returning yet again for an all-hands-on-deck encore. All of Andy Frasco & The U.N. and Dogs In A Pile joined in for a cover of The Velvet Underground‘s “Rock And Roll”, played by Pigeons for the first time in six years, to close out night one.
Saturday also featured some crossover collaboration. All five members of Dogs sat in on “Talk About It” during Frasco’s set, and bassist Sam Lucid channeled his inner Fred Durst as he rapped Limp Bizkit‘s “Break Stuff”. Jeremy Kaplan later joined Pigeons for the venue-appropriate pairing of “Subterranean Homesick Alien” and “Beneath The Surface”. Once again, all three bands stormed the stage for a wild encore, this time settling on Pink Floyd‘s “Have A Cigar”.
