Pigeons Playing Ping Pong were back in action at Brooklyn Bowl in New York City on Saturday night, where the funk-rock quartet delivered their “PPPPre-Party Halftime Hall of Fame” livestream performance to celebrate the Super Bowl on Sunday and the iconic Halftime Show performances of years past while also helping to raise money to benefit Conscious Alliance and The Rex Foundation.
The band appropriately opened their two-set performance inside the empty Brooklyn concert venue with the climactic Sunday Night Football theme before funking their way right into “F.U.” From there, the band kept rocking through the first set with performances of James Brown‘s “I Feel Good”, originals “Overrun” and “Poseidon” (with “Born to Run” mixed into the latter), “Lightning”, and “King Kong”, complete with some Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Rolling Stones, and Stevie Wonder teases woven into the mix.
The band returned for the second set with another sports-inspired mashup before continuing with more originals in “Move Like That”, “Yo Soy Fiesta”, and “Couldn’t We All”, with the latter featuring an NSYNC tease and The Weeknd‘s “Blinding Lights”—in honor of the Super Bowl LV Halftime Show to come—before returning to close the three-song, four-part segue. The second set also treated viewers to a mix of Aerosmith, Michael Jackson, and Prince covers before closing the show with “Fun in Funk”.
