Pigeons Playing Ping Pong‘s long-running Domefest will go on hiatus in 2024, with plans to return in 2025 at a new site. The band announced the gap year on social media on Friday and gave thanks to Thornville, OH’s Legend Valley, which has hosted the festival annually since 2021.

“As you might imagine, there’s so much that goes into making Domefest as special as it is, and many boxes must be checked in order to make the magic happen,” a note posted to the band’s social media channels read. “We appreciate your patience as we’ve been working behind the scenes to ensure that our annual gathering lives up to the standards we’ve all come to expect and appreciate.

“After careful consideration of many moving parts,” the post continued, “we’ve made the tough decision to take the year off while we continue to search for a sustainable home for Domefest.”

The band also told fans to stay tuned for an announcement “that will keep the Domefest spirit alive in 2024 while re-energizing for the future.”

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong first launched Domefest in 2010, organized by guitarist Jeremy Schon as his senior project at the University of Maryland where the band met. Dome has found many homes over the years, moving away from the University of Maryland to Sunshine Daydream Music Park in Terra Alta, WV for several years. In 2018, Domefest came to Fort Royale Farm in Bedford, PA for what proved a one-off before traveling to popular festival destination Marvin’s Mountaintop for another one-and-done in 2019.

Following the COVID clampdown on live music, Domefest returned in an altered “Party in the Pods” format to central Ohio’s beloved Legend Valley, coming back in full force to LV in 2022 and 2023. Over the years, the festival has hosted performances from Goose, Lotus, Twiddle, Aqueous, and many other jam contemporaries, with Pigeons traditionally filling out the three-day lineup with upwards of five sets.

“We can’t thank you enough for your ongoing support,” the note said in closing. “YOU are the reason there’s no place like DOME!”
