Pigeons Playing Ping Pong teamed up for a tripleheader with The Infamous Stringdusters and Melt on Sunday, and the guests came pouring in during the funky foursome’s single-set finale. During their set, PPPP welcomed Infamous Stringdusters banjoist Chris Pandolfi and Eggy guitarist Jake Brownstein, who wasn’t even on the bill but came out to show his support, before the encore featuring all of the Stringdusters plus vocalist Veronica Stewart-Frommer and guitarist Marlo Shankweiler from Melt.
“Scrambled” Greg Ormont, Jeremy Schon, Ben Carrey, and Alex “Gator” Petropulos started their set with a one-two punch of classic “Somethin’ For Ya” paired with “The Town” from last year’s Day in Time. After that, the parade of special guests began as Pandolfi came out to lend his banjo to an extra-twangy “Fall in Place”. Following Pandolfi’s departure, Pigeons flew through “Show Me” and “Henrietta” before bringing out surprise collaborator Jake Brownstein on “Eminence Front”. Eggy’s hometown of New Haven is only 30-ish miles down the coast from Levitt, so during a rare break in touring, Brownstein stopped by to jam on the sleek Who favorite.

Finally closing the revolving door to visitors, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong handled the rest of the set in-house with the fourth-ever “Win A Minute” (debuted on New Year’s Eve 2024) and Day in Time regular “Alright Tonight”. After giving the requisite amount of love to their more recent compositions, PPPP went back to their classics to finish the single-set show with a sentimental “Horizon” and an undulating “Ocean Flows”. To close the show, it was all hands on deck as Pigeons brought out Infamous Stringdusters and Veronica and Marlo from Melt for the band’s first-ever take on Marvin Gaye‘s iconic “What’s Going On”.
