Pigeons Playing Ping Pong flocked to Philadelphia, PA to wrap up their Time To Drive-In concert series for a funk-filled Friday night. The drive-in series marked the Baltimore-based funk quartet’s first set of live performances since March, returning to the stage with a slew of socially-distanced drive-in shows at Cape Cod, MA’s Yarmouth Drive-In on August 13th, and Auburn, NY’s Finger Lakes Drive-In on August 15th and 16th. Last night’s performance saw two sets of psychedelic jams at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park as part of Live Nation’s Live-In / Drive-In concert series.

As fans safely watched from their vehicles, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong opened up the night with a fitting “Distant Times”, followed by their instrumental tune “Totally”. A rising “Poseidon” gave way to the Austin Powers’ faux retro-mod band (Ming Tea) original “Daddy Wasn’t There” before jumping back into the ending crescendo of “Poseidon”. While dancing among their own little bubbles, the band treated fans to an original debut “In The Bubble”. While each of the three previous drive-in performances saw first-time live plays of Homefest song debuts and a new cover, “In The Bubble” was an unexpected treat for fans to hear an all-new, unheard original from the band. A celebratory “High As Five” jam sequenced next, while a deep and dark “Snake Eyes” and “Doc” closed out the first set.

The second set was greeted with an epic “Time To Ride” sandwich, making way for a smooth “Kiwi” to be placed proper in the middle. Fans got the “Lowdown” before the band slipped into a rendition of Pink Floyd’s “Pigs (Three Different Ones)” for some classic psychedelic deep jams. “The Hop” jumped the band into “F.U.” before wrapping up the night’s performance with “Penguins”, “Funkijam”, and “Bad For You”. Honking cars and echoing cheers led the band back onstage for an uplifting encore of “Dawn A New Day” to raise the spirits of the Flock until more live venue or drive-in shows are announced.
