Pigeons Playing Ping Pong closed-out the first weekend of 11E1even Group and nugs.tv‘s Live From Out There virtual festival with an all-original set from an unknown location in Maryland. Live From Out There is a six-week event that will feature hundreds of hours of performances while musicians and fans alike struggle with the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic and the increasing number of shelter-in-place orders popping up around the country.
The first weekend featured live performances by TAUK, Holly Bowling, Goose, SunSquabi, Cycles, and Magic Beans, as well as streams of Pigeons’ Halloween show from October 31st, 2019 in Boston, MA and the Kitchen Dwellers‘ Valentine’s Day show in Bozeman, MT earlier this year.
Pigeons started with a friendly tone in “Lowdown”, one of the band’s newest songs, before the aquatic anthem “Poseidon”. “Yo Soy Fiesta”, which debuted last fall and appeared on the band’s January 2020 release Presto, followed ahead of the Psychology classic, “Time To Ride”. The Baltimore-based four-piece then dropped into “Havana”, yet another Presto track. The chilled-out, beach-vibed instrumental led appropriately to “Water”, which reminded the fans watching from their quarantine locations to stay hydrated. Finally, the band closed the hour-plus set in a unique fashion with “Too Long”, a track from 2017’s Pizazz which usually presents itself as a set opener. Watch Pigeons’ set opener below.
